- Claiming his former employer would "nag and scold" him, Salve alleged he was owed Rs 10,000 in pending salary, prompting his attempt to "teach his former owner a lesson about the importance of money."
- Additional Commissioner Karanraj Vaghela stated Salve bought petrol in Dindoli before entering the Saroli-based Shyam Sangini market to ignite delivery parcels stacked for shipment.
- The inferno took 14 hours to douse, gutting shops on the sixth floor and causing an estimated Rs 24 crores in losses after the fire department received a call around 12.50 am.
- After fleeing to Rajasthan and Ayodhya in Uttar Pradesh, Salve returned to Surat on Sunday night, where The Surat Crime Branch officials detained him in Dindoli based on CCTV footage.
