Dryness: Lake Gérardmer Water Pumped to Power the Network

Some farmers go to great lengths to save their harvests. Irrigating with drinking water is prohibitively expensive, but sometimes the only solution to salvage costly investments. Communication with the water board leads to misunderstanding and friction. "You feel like you're being dismissed as a stupid farmer."
While water restrictions are imposed on 70% of the territory, the situation is of particular concern in Gérardmer, in the Vosges, where there is no longer enough water to meet the needs of the inhabitants. The city has therefore taken the decision to pump water from the lake to supply the drinking water system.
As was the case in 2022, in the face of the drought, the pumping of water from Lake Gérardmer began this Wednesday morning. Thanks to the pipeline set up in 1972, 140 m3 are pumped every hour and then treated to supply drinking water to part of the commune and interconnected municipalities such as Xonrupt-Longemer.
