Thirteenth body recovered from Kyrenia ferry wreck
Search teams are still looking for 15 missing people as families provide DNA samples to identify the recovered bodies, officials said.
- On Saturday, Turkish Cypriot 'prime minister' Unal Ustel confirmed that a 13th body was recovered from the passenger ferry that sank off the coast of Kyrenia last week.
- Turkish navy southern field commander Mehmet Baybars Kucukatay reported on Friday that nine ships, 11 aircraft, and 800 personnel are conducting search operations, with the TCG Alemdar deploying an underwater Rov to reach the wreck at 554 metres.
- As of Sunday, only one victim remains hospitalized, with 131 of the 132 initially admitted after the accident now discharged, according to Ustel. No victims remain in intensive care.
- To ensure accurate identification, DNA analysis is being utilized alongside visual methods, while families of the 15 missing continue waiting for news outside the new port of Kyrenia.
- Turkish Vice President Cevdet Yilmaz visited Cyprus on Thursday as search teams continue round-the-clock operations to locate the 15 missing persons, while 239 survivors have been accounted for.
