Although the number of accidents involving personal injury caused by e-scooters has increased dramatically, by more than 60 percent, this year, demand for compulsory liability insurance for vehicles has fallen, Netrisk reported.
Even though there are more accidents, fewer people are taking out insurance.
Which is also strange because it is mandatory to take out insurance for these vehicles since 2024.
The number of road accidents caused by electric scooters in Hungary is increasing at an alarming rate: in the first five months of 2026, 61 percent more personal injury accidents were registered than a year earlier. Meanwhile, demand for mandatory scooter insurance has fallen, and stricter regulations may also be on the agenda.
While the number of personal injury accidents caused by motorized scooters is increasing significantly, the demand for mandatory insurance for scooters has decreased somewhat this year.
