Amnesty welcomed his release but warned he may still face post-prison restrictions.
Yashar (Yaxia'er Xiaohelaiti), a songwriter and Uighur musician, was released on 10 August 2026 after serving his three-year prison sentence. He was sentenced in June 2024 for "apology of extremism" and "illegal possession of extremist works", apparently for composing music and possessing Uighur-language books.
