Astronomers have for the first time imaged the transformation of the icy celestial body 450P/LONEOS, which orbits the Solar System, into a comet as it approaches the Sun. The study determined that this transformation is caused by carbon dioxide.
Researchers have observed the 450P/LONEOS centaure develop cometary activity and have detected carbon dioxide, confirming that this ice object is undergoing transformation.
