  • On Thursday, a KC-135 Stratotanker crashed over western Iraq, killing six U.S. service members during a combat mission supporting Operation Epic Fury. The Pentagon confirmed the incident occurred in friendly airspace.
  • Gen. Dan Caine, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, stated the crash occurred over "friendly territory" and ruled out hostile or friendly fire. U.S. Central Command reported an unspecified incident involving another aircraft, which landed safely.
  • Among the six killed was Technical Sergeant Ashley Pruitt, 34, who served with the 6th Air Refueling Wing at MacDill Air Force Base. Three other airmen were assigned to the 121st Air Refueling Wing in Ohio.

  • The aging KC-135 fleet is scheduled to be phased out as the KC-46A Pegasus enters service. According to the Associated Press, this crash brings the total U.S. service members killed in the ongoing Iran operation to 13.
