- On Thursday, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced the Academy Awards will move to the Peacock Theater in downtown Los Angeles starting in 2029 as part of a new 10-year agreement with venue operator AEG.
- The ceremony will depart the Dolby Theatre, its home since 2002 with only one exception, to accommodate larger crowds at the 7,100-seat Peacock Theater compared with the Dolby's 3,400 seats.
- As part of the partnership, AEG will undertake "comprehensive enhancements to the theater," including upgrades to stage, sound, and lighting systems. The 23-acre L.A. Live complex will host red carpet arrivals in its recently expanded plaza.
- Transitioning from ABC to YouTube, the 2029 ceremony marks the 101st Academy Awards and ends the broadcast run on ABC that began in 1976.
- Academy CEO Bill Kramer and Academy President Lynette Howell Taylor stated the Academy looks forward to "closely collaborating with AEG to make L.A. LIVE the perfect backdrop for our global celebration of cinema," with the deal extending through 2039.
