The one household bill that’s actually cheaper than it was 10 years ago

Analysis by Broadband Genie found Broadband is the only utility where prices have actually fallen over the past ten years, defying broader trends of rising living costs across Gas, water, and council tax.
Gas and electricity costs are 82 per cent higher than a decade ago, while water bills rose 69 per cent and council tax jumped 56 per cent; other research shows stamps rocketed 181 per cent.
Ultrafast Broadband deals now cost around £26.30 monthly, down from an average of £39.65 a decade ago, representing roughly a third less than the price a generation earlier.
Alex Tofts, strategist at Broadband Genie, urged customers to check contracts, saying consumers could "pay less today than you did ten years ago" while receiving faster service and potentially saving £183.60 by switching.
Budget Broadband packages in 2016 commonly relied on copper telephone lines delivering around 14Mbps, but modern infrastructure has replaced those legacy systems, enabling providers to offer faster speeds at lower prices.
