- On Sunday, the Miami Heat signed veteran guard Dennis Smith Jr. to an Exhibit 10 contract ahead of training camp, according to NBA insider Chris Haynes, who reported the team monitored the former lottery pick throughout the summer.
- The Sioux Falls Skyforce traded Jahmir Young's G League returning-player rights to the Coachella Valley Lakers on Saturday, just before the Heat's agreement with Smith was announced.
- Smith, 28, carries career averages of 9.7 points and 4.2 assists across 326 games after being selected 9th overall in the 2017 NBA Draft out of NC State.
- Smith will not join the Heat for training camp, with a return to the Skyforce expected; the Exhibit 10 agreement makes him eligible for a $91,000 bonus if he spends at least 60 days with the affiliate.
- In exchange for Young's rights, the Skyforce acquired 7-foot center Kylor Kelley and a 2027 G League first-round pick, addressing roster depth for Miami's developmental affiliate.
