As the review of the draft constitutional law on Corsica's autonomy ended last night, we met with André Paccou, the president of the LDH on the island, in order to gather the League's position on this issue.
Between the principle of absolute equality before the law and that of respect for the will of the people, an option to which most left-wing parties, including France, joined, the debates on Corsica's autonomy gave rise to a divided left.
While Members are considering a draft constitutional revision aimed at granting autonomy to the island, introducing the concept of "community" into our fundamental law would create a dangerous breach for our republican principles.
This agreement on what should justify a "status of autonomy", which a constitutional law intends to grant to Corsica, would allow specific legislative and regulatory adaptations to the island of Beauty.
Before the vote, Tuesday 23 June, in the National Assembly of the draft constitutional law that would allow Corsica to decide on specific legislative and regulatory adaptations to the island for existing texts, 80 personalities – right, left and civil society – call for prudence.
