Michelle Good Makes Giller Prize Short List for 100K Award for Canadian Fiction
The winner will receive $100,000 as a nine-member jury of independent booksellers selected the shortlist from five novels.
On Monday, October 5, 2026, the Giller Prize announced its five finalists for Canada's richest fiction award: Order of Canada member Michelle Good, Tara Gereaux, Nazanine Hozar, Nicholas Herring, and Patmeena Sabit.
A nine-member jury of independent booksellers from across Canada selected this year's shortlist, drawing representatives from the Maritimes, B.C., and Ontario regions.
The shortlisted novels span diverse themes: historical fiction set in 1940s Saskatchewan, a harrowing account of child soldiers in the Iran-Iraq war, and Good's multi-generational family saga Eliza Sunshine exploring Cree storytelling traditions.
Scheduled for November 16, the televised award ceremony hosted by comedian Rick Mercer will reveal the winner of the $100,000 Giller Prize, with finalists each receiving $10,000.
Supported by a $4 million gift from the Hilary and Galen Weston Foundation, the nominated books are available in accessible formats through the National Network for Equitable Library Services and the Centre for Equitable Library Access.
