Fairphone Brings Its $649 Repairable Gen 6+ Smartphone to the US
The repairable Android phone adds 12 replaceable parts, 7 years of software updates and support for AT&T and T-Mobile.
- Dutch electronics maker Fairphone announced on Tuesday that the Fairphone Gen 6+ is now available in the United States for $649, marking the company's first official direct-to-consumer release in the country.
- Previously, Americans could only access Fairphone devices through third-party retailer Murena, which required using a Google-free version of Android that limited mainstream functionality.
- The Fairphone Gen 6+ retains the company's signature modular design, allowing users to replace 12 components—including the battery and cameras—using a single Torx screwdriver.
- Under the hood, the new model features a Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 processor with 12GB of DDR5 RAM and offers full support for T-Mobile and AT&T networks.
- Fairphone says the device is fully e-waste neutral with a carbon footprint of around 30 kilograms and supports software updates until 2033, reducing the need for frequent replacements.
