EC must be independent to ensure free polls: SC judge
Supreme Court Justice Dipankar Datta has expressed concerns regarding the independence of the Election Commission of India's selection process under the 2023 law. He highlighted that the ECI must not only be independent but also be perceived as such, questioning the efficacy of a selection committee that includes a Union minister nominated by the Prime Minister.
