- According to an August survey from Heatmap Pro and Embold Research, 75 percent of Americans oppose building a data center in their area, while 95 percent of the 66 GW of capacity under construction is already reserved.
- Local opposition has intensified as Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro signed an executive order establishing the "strictest guardrails in the nation," while Texas Gov. Greg Abbott and New York Gov. Kathy Hochul have moved to restrict new approvals.
- Senator Dave McCormick, R-Pa., argued that China is attempting to "manipulate America's debate over AI and energy," contending that blocking these facilities could sabotage American dominance in the AI race.
