The co-owner of a Maine lumber mill has died of injuries from the mill fire and explosion
The blaze killed two firefighters and injured 10 others, and investigators said it began with an accidental silo explosion.
On Friday, Belmont firefighter Katie Paige left Maine Medical Center in Portland after weeks of treatment for severe burns sustained in the May 15 Robbins Lumber mill explosion in Searsmont.
A silo explosion at the mill on May 15 injured at least 10 people and killed Andrew Cross of the Morrill Volunteer Fire Department and Searsmont Assistant Fire Chief Wayne Woodbury.
Paige underwent finger amputations and skin grafts during recovery and traveled via an eight-vehicle convoy to the Belmont Fire Station, where community supporters provided a hero's welcome.
Alden Robbins, vice president of sales for Robbins Lumber, died Thursday from injuries sustained in the May 15 explosion, bringing total fatalities from the incident to three.
Chief of Searsmont Rescue Sarah Tompkins and three Robbins family members remain hospitalized at Massachusetts General Hospital as authorities continue investigating the accidental fire.
