In the Federal Republic of Germany, a step has been taken to establish a second naval base on the North Sea, with plans to invest billions of euros in the port of Emden and to complete construction in the early 2030s.
The head of the Federal Ministry of Defence, Boris Pistorius, announced on Monday plans to establish a new naval port in Emden in the Eastern Frisium region (Federal Land of Lower Saxony), near the border with the Netherlands, reports NDR. "The Navy has not been to Emden for almost 30 years and now they are returning", the Minister stated at a press conference.
Germany will have a second naval base on the North Sea, in the city of Emden, where marinas will be built for frigates, mine trawlers and tugboats, and the number of personnel can reach 2,000.
