The declaration stressed the need for greater engagement in conflict prevention efforts, including by addressing the root causes of conflicts. The grouping also reiterated its commitment to the peaceful resolution of international disputes through dialogue, consultation and diplomacy.
The BRICS want to stage themselves at the summit as a geopolitical counterweight to the West. Although the declaration is supposed to "condemn one-sided wars", those responsible do not call it.
