Quebec Conservative Leader Éric Duhaime Admits to Using AI to Write Book
Quebecor media said Pangram found 62% of the book machine-generated as Duhaime defended AI as a tool to organize his ideas.
On Friday, Quebec Conservative Party Leader Eric Duhaime admitted to using artificial intelligence to write his latest book, Destination Autonomie.
Quebecor media outlets reported on Thursday using AI-detection software Pangram that 62 per cent of the book's content was machine-generated, prompting the public disclosure.
Duhaime, who previously worked as a columnist and radio host, defended the process, saying "AI is important to us. That said, it has to be done under human supervision," and asserted the book's ideas remain his own.
In the text, Duhaime reflects on how Quebec can gain more autonomy within the Canadian Confederation, positioning the work as a policy manifesto ahead of the election.
With Quebecers heading to the polls on Oct. 5, Duhaime stated he supports using AI throughout his campaign, arguing the technology could help cut bureaucracy and streamline governance.
