- In May 2013, Ricks attacked Roxann Sanchez and her 8-year-old son Anthony at their Bedford apartment, while Marcus Figueroa survived after playing dead.
- Before fleeing, Ricks put the infant Isaiah into a crib, then fled in Sanchez's car, called family and was arrested in Garvin County, Oklahoma.
- On Wednesday, the U.S. Supreme Court rejected Ricks' final appeal hours after the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles denied a 90-day reprieve on Monday; Ricks was the second executed in Texas and sixth in the country this year.
- Marcus Figueroa watched the execution through a glass window, showing no emotion, while seven relatives declined to speak and Ricks apologized, saying 'Explaining my rage, I was upset. I wish I could bring them back, like, right now'.
