- Recently, Tesla Inc. activated its first V4 Supercharger cabinets across the United States, delivering 500 kW for passenger EVs and up to 1,200 kW for the Tesla Semi, charging two vehicles per unit.
- Facing high infrastructure costs, Tesla prioritized modularity and shared components, developing V4 to support fleet adoption of the Tesla Semi and lower network capex to $8-12B, targeting 20-30% of the North American freight market by 2028.
- Each V4 cabinet supports up to eight stalls, offers over three times the power density, and uses medium-voltage transformers to cut interconnection queues from 12-18 months to 3-6 months, Tesla said.
- Cheaper retrofits and high upgradeability speed the rollout, with V4 upgrades costing $15,000-$25,000 per stall and Tesla able to upgrade 70% of existing V3 Superchargers.
- Rising fleet and robotaxi demand implies large annual energy additions, with Semi projections starting at 50,000 in 2026 and reaching 150,000 by 2028, prompting Tesla to plan mega-stations along I-80 and I-10.
