Tesla sets up Vietnam unit, registration filing shows
U.S. electric vehicle maker Tesla has established a subsidiary in Vietnam, according to a newly published business registration filing, marking its formal entry into one of Southeast Asia's fastest-growing EV markets.
Tesla established a commercial company in Ho Chi Minh City with a capital close to $3 million, without publicly communicating its arrival. The operation aims to import and sell vehicles, spare parts and equipment, but lands in a market where VinFast already has a dominant position and where rules for foreign companies continue to change.
The appearance of the name Tesla Motors Vietnam, along with its registered business activities related to the import, distribution, and retail of automobiles, is raising the possibility that the American electric car manufacturer is preparing to officially enter the Vietnamese market.
