First Tesla Semi Rolls Off High Volume Production Line
Tesla says the Semi is now rolling off a 50,000-truck annual capacity line, with deliveries expected later this year.
- Tesla officially began high-volume mass production of its Semi electric truck at a dedicated factory adjacent to Gigafactory Nevada in Sparks, shifting the program from a low-volume pilot line to full-scale manufacturing.
- First unveiled in 2017, the Semi faced years of production delays and was initially hand-built in limited numbers for clients like PepsiCo. This transition to high-volume manufacturing marks a critical pivot for the long-delayed program.
- Available in Standard Range and Long Range versions, the Semi offers up to 500 miles of range starting at approximately $260,000. It features a tri-motor powertrain and 1.2-MW Megacharger speeds, restoring 60% of range in roughly 30 minutes.
- With mass production underway, Tesla says deliveries will begin later this year. Demand remains strong, with the Semi accounting for 965 of 1,067 voucher applications in California's Clean Truck & Bus Voucher program between January 2025 and February 2026.
- Tesla plans to spend over $20 billion this year, prioritizing the Semi factory, Cybercab, and Optimus robot. While competitors like Daimler and Volvo ship electric trucks, Tesla enters high-volume manufacturing with a significant lead on price and range.
