Tens of thousands protest public spending cuts across France
Nearly 600,000 people participated in nationwide protests across France on Thursday, according to the CGT union, responding to a strike call by trade unions opposing proposed spending cuts in next year’s budget. The French interior ministry offered a lower estimate, reporting around 195,000 protesters, including 24,000 in Paris.
According to the Ministry of the Interior, the previous day of mobilization, on 18 September, had brought together 505,000 people, of whom 55,000 were in Paris, where they were now 24,000.
