Zverev Sets up Fritz Semi at Halle Open
Zverev reached his fourth straight Halle semi-final with a 7-6, 7-6 win and will face Taylor Fritz, who saved a match point against Ben Shelton.
On Friday, French Open champion Alexander Zverev reached the Halle Open semi-finals in Germany, defeating Belgian qualifier Raphael Collignon 7-6 , 7-6 to set up a clash with American Taylor Fritz.
Earlier on Friday, Fritz battled past compatriot Ben Shelton in three sets, exacting revenge five days after losing the Stuttgart ATP tournament final to Shelton.
Despite his 10-match winning streak across clay and grass, Zverev faces a difficult challenge; he has lost his past six matches against Fritz.
Zverev, who has reached the semi-finals at this Wimbledon warm-up event four consecutive times, said, "It was an incredible match, with a very high level of play." He has never won the Halle title.
German Daniel Altmaier defeated fourth seed Daniil Medvedev 6-4, 6-7 , 6-4 in the remaining quarter-finals and will face either world number four Felix Auger Aliassime or American Frances Tiafoe in the semi-finals.
