Tennessee bill to expand school vouchers heads to Gov. Lee's desk
The plan would nearly double the program to 35,000 slots and direct more than $150 million in taxpayer funds to private school tuition.
The Tennessee House approved House Bill 2532 to expand Education Freedom Scholarships to 35,000 students, adding 10,000 scholarships to the existing 5,000, with the bill now pending Governor Bill Lee's approval.
The Senate passed an expansion to 35,000 scholarships for 2026-27, increasing from previous amounts, with the bill including provisions to protect public school funding from enrollment losses and requiring annual reporting on scholarship recipients.
