Desmond Elliot Kneels Before Gbajabiamila, Apologises over APC Primary Fallout
Elliot said he was deeply sorry and sought reconciliation after losing the party ticket by 11,385 votes to 270.
- On Sunday, Lagos State lawmaker Desmond Elliot knelt before Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila in a viral video, stating "I'm sorry. I have no excuse; I have nothing other than to say I'm deeply sorry. And in our culture, we prostrate. Don't be angry, Daddy."
- Tensions originated from the May All Progressives Congress primary for Surulere Constituency I, where Barakat Odunuga-Bakare secured 11,385 votes to Elliot's 270 after Elliot withdrew, alleging his supporters faced intimidation and were denied venue access.
- In the video, Elliot expressed remorse for his primary actions and sought reconciliation with All Progressives Congress leadership in Lagos, later posting on Instagram that "no political ambition or temporary disagreement is worth damaging a relationship built on years of trust."
- Gbajabiamila accepted the gesture, urging Elliot to rise and saying "There is no... please, get up," marking their first public appearance together since the May primary election.
- Elliot appealed for party unity to strengthen the All Progressives Congress and advance Lagos State and Nigeria, vowing to conduct himself with greater discipline while reaffirming loyalty to Gbajabiamila as his "political father, mentor, and leader.
