ECI Orders Action over Bogus Form 7s in T’gana, Says CEO
The CEO said bulk Form 7 filings must be probed before action, after complaints that false applications could delete eligible voters.
- On Monday, Telangana Chief Electoral Officer C. Sudharshan Reddy directed District Election Officers to initiate action against applicants filing false declarations in Forms 6, 6A, 7, and 8, citing bulk Form-7 applications submitted to Electoral Registration Officers.
- This directive follows allegations by the Telangana Congress and Asaduddin Owaisi-led AIMIM that BJP activists are filing bulk Form-7 applications to remove Muslim voters from electoral rolls during the Special Intensive Revision.
- Specifically in Musheerabad, the Telangana Congress alleged a BJP Booth Level Agent filed Form-7 applications against 30 electors; the CEO mandated inquiries under Rule 20 of the Registration of Electors Rules, 1960 before action.
- State BJP president N Ramchander Rao rejected the allegations, stating no Booth Level Agents submitted such applications, while the Election Commission faces separate scrutiny over Form-6 modifications and internal commissioner objections.
- The Supreme Court clarified Monday that it did not approve modified Form-6 versions used during the Special Intensive Revision; Chief Justice of India Surya Kant stated the bench would examine records to identify who authorized the changes.
