'I Got a Brain Injury in Ibiza but Now I'm Running the London Marathon'
Daniel Hurst spent four months recovering on a stroke ward after a head injury in Ibiza and aims to raise funds for Frimley Park Hospital by running the London Marathon.
- Daniel Hurst, a survivor, will run the London Marathon on April 26 to raise money for Frimley Park Hospital's charity, and has set up a JustGiving page.
- In May last year, Daniel Hurst was on an annual football trip to Ibiza with Yateley United teammates; after walking 300 yards toward his hotel, he was airlifted to Majorca for emergency surgery and a medically induced coma.
- At Frimley Park he spent four months on the stroke unit as the youngest ever patient, and he is now back playing football and working at a local golf club.
- He is running to raise funds and to show that 'recovery is possible', while Mr Hurst said 'Even if I just walk it, this year is not about beating my time last year, it is about getting over the finish line.'
- Dr Tilly Speirs said age and prior marathon fitness aided his recovery and his future could be as bright as before, with the same plans to improve golf, run, and go to the gym, as he stated.
