After jets, warships, Trump arms Taiwan for new kind of war? Taipei builds ‘cyber shield’ against Xi
Taiwan is planning a new military cyber threat-hunting team to search for hidden Chinese hackers and backdoors inside its networks, marking a shift from passive defence to proactive cyber warfare. The proposed unit, backed by foreign expertise and reportedly U.S.-focused training, comes as Taipei deepens military cooperation with Washington amid growing Chinese pressure.
The Taiwan Armed Forces announced the establishment of a specialized cyber threat hunt team under a US cooperation programme, the so-called Information, Communications and Electronics Command has allocated $3 million in the 2027 budget proposal for the United States of America.
Taiwan plans to create a unit specialized in digital threat hunting and allocate NT$95.93 million by 2027, with foreign training that, according to local reports, would be mainly linked to the United States.
