Taiwan Gender-Row Boxer Lin Yu-Ting Wins 'Monumental' Asian Games Gold
Lin beat Yang Chengyu 5-0 for her second Asian Games gold after the Paris eligibility dispute, as the International Olympic Committee backed her return.
On Friday, Taiwanese boxer Lin Yu-ting won the 60kg gold medal at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games in Nagoya, Japan, defeating China's Yang Chengyu 5-0 in the final.
This victory follows a high-profile gender-eligibility dispute at the 2024 Paris Olympics involving Lin and Algerian boxer Imane Khelif, though Lin was cleared to compete earlier this year after World Boxing completed a review.
Moving from her previous 57kg class, Lin said she competed in the heavier division because she was "not afraid to die," describing the win as "monumental" after considering retirement following scrutiny in Paris.
Opponent Yang struggled to counter Lin's superior reach, noting that training rarely prepares athletes for such height and that she felt unable to make much happen during the second round.
Lin refused to confirm whether she planned to defend her Olympic title at the 2028 Los Angeles Games, though she stated, "I believe that in the future, we can also put on an even better performance.
