Teen E-Bike Rider Hospitalised After Alleged Hit-Run
The boy suffered lower-leg injuries and police said they have established a crime scene as investigations continue.
A 15-year-old boy was airlifted to Randwick Children's Hospital on Monday after his e-bike collided with a Volkswagen SUV in North Curl Curl, sustaining serious leg injuries.
Events escalated after the driver allegedly made an offensive hand gesture towards teenage e-bike riders, prompting the teen to follow and block the vehicle at the intersection of Abbott and Pitt roads.
Despite being told to stop by two off-duty police officers, the driver fled the scene; detectives arrested the 38-year-old man at Dee Why Police Station at 5.30pm.
Authorities charged the man with driving furiously causing bodily harm, negligent driving, and driving while a licence application was refused; he received strict conditional bail for Manly Local Court on Wednesday.
The NSW government has vowed to crack down on illegal e-bikes with new laws allowing police to seize and destroy modified vehicles, following recent illegal ride-outs targeted by Strike Force Puma.
