$1M Bond Set for KSU Shooting Suspect
Jacob Lee Bard, 48, faces murder and first-degree assault charges after fatally shooting a 19-year-old student and critically wounding another in an isolated campus incident, officials said.
- On Tuesday, a campus shooting at Kentucky State University left student De'Jon Darrell Fox Jr., 19, dead and another student in critical condition after Jacob Lee Bard, 48, Evansville, Indiana man, was identified as the suspect.
- Frankfort police said the episode appeared isolated, officials noted Bard is a parent of a KSU student, and an arrest citation described a physical altercation before the shooting.
- Police say they arrived around 3:35 p.m. Tuesday and took Bard into custody about five minutes later as paramedics administered CPR to the student who later died.
- At a Thursday hearing, Jacob Lee Bard pleaded not guilty and was arraigned in Franklin District Court; Judge Chris Olds set bond at $1 million, full cash, with a Dec. 16 court date.
- The university suspended all classes and activities for the week, canceling finals and offering counseling to approximately 2,200 students at the Frankfort campus, while officials reassured there is no ongoing threat.
