'Sunday in the Park With George' Cancelled After Ariana Grande and Jonathan Bailey's Exit
Empire Street Productions said it will keep the rights and may stage the musical in 2028 after the two stars withdrew.
On Monday, producers announced the planned 2027 production of Sunday in the Park With George at the Barbican Centre will no longer proceed as scheduled, following the exits of stars Ariana Grande and Jonathan Bailey.
Grande announced last month she would be "taking a step back from visibility" following her Eternal Sunshine tour, citing "ongoing public scrutiny" regarding her health, which included exiting the stage show.
Earlier this month, Bailey also withdrew from the production, which was set to reunite the Wicked co-stars under the direction of Marianne Elliott.
Empire Street Productions retains the rights to the musical, with plans to present the production in 2028 after previously stating that casting discussions were "actively underway."
The 1984 musical by Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine has faced previous delays, including a 2021 revival attempt that was postponed indefinitely due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
