Former B.C. Cop Who Murdered Wife Gets Day Parole Extended Again
The Parole Board cited Wiens’s program participation and personal change while keeping restrictions that bar contact with the victim’s family and alcohol use.
On Sept. 22, the Parole Board extended the day parole of Keith Gregory Wiens, a 71-year-old retired Summerland RCMP officer, for another six months in Ontario.
In 2011, Wiens shot and killed Lynn Kalmring, his common-law partner of seven years, in their home. A jury convicted him in 2013, sentencing him to life with no parole eligibility for 13 years.
Conditions of his release mandate Wiens follow a treatment plan, report all relationships, and abstain from alcohol while maintaining no contact with Kalmring's family and checking in with police.
Family members have long opposed the release of Wiens, citing ongoing emotional harm, though the Board noted he remains a high risk for violence against future intimate partners.
Since beginning day parole in 2025, Wiens has purchased a house he visits on weekend passes; the Board noted he has made a female friend, though Contacts reported no concerns.
