Delhi HC Objects to ‘Shoorveer’ Song in Mirzapur Climax, Asks CBFC to Decide
The court said the song’s use in a fight scene is not in good taste and gave the Central Board of Film Certification a week to decide on changes.
- On Thursday, The Delhi High Court addressed a PIL regarding The Movie, stating the use of the song Shoorveer in a fight scene is "not in good taste."
- Petitioner Prashant Kumar Singh argued the composition, a tribute to Maharana Pratap, creates an "undesirable association" between the warrior's ideals and the violent criminal activities portrayed in Mirzapur.
- Defending the creative choice, the counsel for the producer said the track is used to "embellish" the climax, noting The Movie depicts a fight between two factions without comparing characters to historical figures.
- After the producer approached the CBFC to alter the scene, the authority informed the court it will soon decide on the modifications, with the bench requesting a decision within one week.
- Listing the PIL for hearing on September 24, Chief Justice Upadhyaya and Justice Tejas Karia remarked that if the producer modifies the background music, the petition's purpose is achieved.
