Youth Congress Workers Booked over Clash with ABVP at Pune Hostel Campus
Police filed an FIR against 50 to 60 Youth Congress workers after a verbal spat over a Rahul Gandhi event escalated into a clash at the COEP hostel.
On Friday, a clash erupted at the College of Engineering, Pune hostel between members of the National Students' Union of India and the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad ahead of Congress MP Rahul Gandhi's visit.
ABVP members alleged that NSUI threatened and forced female students to attend the event; Youth Congress workers denied these claims, asserting that ABVP threatened students supporting the programme.
Shivaji Nagar Police registered a first information report against 50 to 60 NSUI members, including Pushkar Abanave, following a complaint by ABVP activist Malhar Patil , a student from Aundh.
The Bharatiya Janata Party claimed Congress offered Rs 25,000 to influencers to attend, while Congress leader Nana Patole criticized the government for the clash, saying it "signifies a failure on the part of the government."
Rahul Gandhi is scheduled to address students during the 'Chhatron Ki Gunj' programme on Saturday despite the ongoing tensions and accusations surrounding forced student attendance.
