Stock market today: Sensex, Nifty open higher amid hopes of technical rebound after previous lows
Sensex and Nifty recovered after a steep selloff, while foreign investors sold Rs 2,977.86 crore and domestic institutions bought equities, analysts said.
- Market benchmark indices BSE Sensex and Nifty rebounded in early trade on Wednesday, with the BSE Sensex jumping 245.49 points or 0.33 per cent to 74,249.31 and Nifty opening with an 83-point gain at 23,201.60.
- On Tuesday, the BSE Sensex tumbled 777.94 points, or 1.04 per cent, to a three-month low, as Foreign Institutional Investors remained net sellers for the fifth consecutive session, offloading equities worth Rs 2,977.86 crore.
- Paytm shares surged over 7 per cent following government fee announcements, while Kotak Bank led BSE Sensex gainers with a 1.32 per cent rise and market breadth showed 1,397 stocks advancing against 1,122 declining on the NSE.
- Federal Reserve policy decisions tonight serve as a key market trigger, with Hariselvan Radhakrishnan, CEO of HST Wealth, warning that hawkish guidance could pressure equities, the rupee, and foreign flows.
- Global recovery remains fragile as Brent crude hovers near USD 108 a barrel and elevated global bond yields continue weighing on risk appetite; Asian markets including South Korea's Kospi and Japan's Nikkei 225 traded in positive territory.
