Stewart Cink pushes lead to 3 in Alabama in bid for 2nd straight senior major
Cink closed with a 3-under 69 and won by three shots, becoming the second player in two years to sweep the first two senior majors.
On Sunday, 52-year-old Stewart Cink secured a three-shot victory at the Regions Tradition in Alabama, claiming his second major title of the year on the PGA Tour Champions.
Winning the Senior PGA Championship two weeks ago in Florida, Cink has now captured five victories in his last eight tournaments on the senior circuit.
Closing with a 3-under 69, Cink finished at 18-under 270 while holding off challengers Scott Hend of Australia and Sixty-two-year-old Colin Montgomerie at Greystone.
The victory earned Cink $390,000 and doubled his lead in the Charles Schwab Cup, coming days after his Saturday announcement as an assistant captain for the U.S. Ryder Cup team.
Cink noted an important appointment this week for his wife, Lisa, as the tour moves to the Insperity Invitational in Houston amid her breast cancer treatment.
