Steven Guilbeault formally resigns his seat in Laurier-Sainte-Marie
Liberal MP Steven Guilbeault officially resigned his Montreal seat of Laurier—Sainte-Marie on Friday, according to the House of Commons website.
Guilbeault said he is leaving government on a matter of principle due to changes in the party's direction on energy and the environment under Prime Minister Mark Carney's leadership.
Three federal byelections will conclude today, and Prime Minister Mark Carney must schedule six more, indicating ongoing electoral activity.
Conservative MP Cathay Wagantall is also expected to resign today, following her announcement in June.
