Stephen Colbert Is on a 'Full-Time' Job After Emmy Win
On Tuesday, Stephen Colbert appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, marking his first late-night television appearance since CBS cancelled The Late Show in May 2026.
Monday's 78th Primetime Emmy Awards saw The Late Show win seven awards, including Outstanding Variety Series, for the show's final season that ended in May.
During the interview, Colbert shaved off his beard live on air, fulfilling a promise to his wife, Evelyn "Evie" McGee-Colbert, who he noted "hates" the facial hair for its prickliness.
The former host is currently writing The Lord of the Rings: Shadow of the Past with son Peter McGee and trilogy writer Philippa Boyens, remaining "very busy" on the project.
Despite stepping away from daily news, Colbert insisted late-night television is "alive and well," jokingly noting he no longer has to "drink a cup of poison" every night.
