With the victory of the CDU in Rhineland-Palatinate an era ends. For 35 years the country was led by the SPD – now a change of power is underway.
The relief in the CDU top is great given the surprisingly clear success in Rhineland-Palatinate. However, it is clear to everyone that the challenges for the black-red coalition in the federal government could become even greater.
After 35 years, the CDU is expected to take over the helm again in Rhineland-Palatinate. The SPD is clearly breaking down. Chancellor's office chief Thorsten Frei is "very satisfied" that after 35 years, the CDU will take over the government again.
Just as close as the polls had foreseen, it wasn't in the state elections of Rhineland-Palatinate. It quickly turned out that the new Prime Minister is being presented by the CDU.
