Stars Sign Goalie Casey DeSmith to 2-Year, $5 Million Extension as Backup to Jake Oettinger
The two-year deal keeps the veteran goalie in Dallas after he posted a 15-8-6 record and a .907 save percentage last season.
- On Wednesday, the Dallas Stars signed 35-year-old Casey DeSmith to a two-year, $5 million extension covering the 2026-27 through 2028-29 seasons with a $2.5 million AAV.
- General Manager Jim Nill stated that extending DeSmith was a "priority" due to his reliability, expressing excitement about the tandem of DeSmith and Jake Oettinger continuing to anchor the team.
- During the 2025-26 season, DeSmith appeared in 30 games with a 15-8-6 record and achieved a career-best 13-game point streak with nine victories early that season.
- The move ensures the Stars maintain their 1-2 goalie combo led by Oettinger for five consecutive seasons, providing organizational continuity in goal.
- Over eight seasons, the New Hampshire native has recorded 13 career shutouts in 220 games, ranking fifth among American-born goalies in that category.
