Will Benn Be Back Next Season?
Coach Glen Gulutzan and Tyler Seguin want Jamie Benn to return after he finished with 15 goals in his injury-shortened season.
On Monday, Dallas Stars captain Jamie Benn addressed his future following the team's first-round playoff elimination, stating he will "probably just wake up one day" and decide whether to return for an 18th NHL season.
Coach Glen Gulutzan and longtime teammate Tyler Seguin publicly urged the 37-year-old captain to continue playing after the Stars fell in six games to Minnesota in the first round.
Benn played 60 games on a one-year, $1 million contract this season, earning an additional $2 million in bonuses while recording 15 goals and 21 assists with more than 13 minutes of playing time per game.
While Benn contemplates his future, the Stars prepare for offseason negotiations with leading scorer Jason Robertson, who can become a restricted free agent unless the team makes a $9.3 million qualifying offer by June 29.
General Manager Jim Nill previously stated Benn earned the right to remain with the Stars as long as he desires, a stance reflecting his legacy second only to Hall of Fame center Mike Modano in franchise history.
