Atlanta United Signs Former World Cup Star in 4-Year Contract
Breel Embolo joins Atlanta United through the 2029-30 season after a World Cup run in which he started all six matches for Switzerland.
- Atlanta United signed forward Breel Embolo from French club Stade Rennais through the 2029-30 season, the Major League Soccer team announced. The 29-year-old joins following his performance at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
- Following a 2025 season with Stade Rennais where Embolo tallied 10 goals and three assists in 34 matches, he started all six matches during the 2026 FIFA World Cup for Switzerland, generating two goals and two assists.
- The striker has accumulated 100 goals and 66 assists in 380 professional appearances across Switzerland, Germany, and France, including 30 appearances in the UEFA Champions League and 27 in the UEFA Europa League.
- Chris Henderson, chief soccer officer and sporting director of Atlanta United, said the team is "pleased to bring a player with Breel's combination of talent and experience" to the club. Embolo will occupy Designated Player and international roster spots.
- Embolo's roster status will be finalized pending receipt of his International Transfer Certificate and P1 Athlete Visa. The forward previously earned Switzerland's Golden Player and Best Young Player honors in 2015 while beginning his professional career at Basel.
