Spotify Finally Lets You Stop Single Songs ‘Infecting’ Your Playlists
Users can now exclude individual tracks from affecting recommendations, playlists, and Wrapped across all platforms, enhancing control over Spotify's personalized music experience.
- On Wednesday, Spotify announced a new option to exclude individual songs from users' Taste Profile, rolling out across web, desktop, iOS and Android for Free and Premium users.
- To prevent one-off listens from skewing results, Spotify says it is giving users more control over how its algorithm reads listening habits, aiming to stop outliers from affecting recommendations, Discover Weekly and Wrapped.
- Using the 'Exclude from your Taste Profile' menu option, users select one track at a time via the three-dot menu, and excluded tracks stay in history but influence recommendations less.
- For listeners frustrated by Wrapped disruptions, Spotify now offers track-level exclusion that aims to stop household members' listens from affecting Spotify Wrapped, providing finer control than prior playlist-level exclusion.
- Compared with rivals, Spotify's change adjusts Taste Profile and future recommendations, while Deezer and Tidal offer stronger blocks and Apple Music and YouTube Music use weaker, indirect controls.
