The Korean Olympic Committee has conveyed to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism its position that hosting the 2036 Summer Olympics is impossible for Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province, which is pursuing the bid, due to insufficient preparation. Discussions on a joint bid with Seoul have also virtually made no progress, and the Ministry has suspended the review of the bid plan citing issues with accommodation and infrastructure.
