'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' Swings to Top
The film earned $355 million in the United States and Canada, giving it the biggest domestic opening of all time, Reuters reported.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day earned a massive $927 million in worldwide ticket sales during its opening weekend, becoming the biggest box office opener of all-time, surpassing Avengers: Endgame.
AMC Chairman and CEO Adam Aron reported the film propelled the theater chain to its highest total revenue ever for a single weekend, welcoming more than 10.2 million moviegoers worldwide.
Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, the blockbuster features Zendaya and Tom Holland, with actor Tramell Tillman portraying Bill Metzger, the head of Damage Control.
Comic creator Joe Casey recently revealed his character Bill Metzger, adapted for the film, originated in the 1999 mini-series X-Men: Children of the Atom based on real-life figure Tom Metzger.
Casey has publicly criticized Marvel for compensation issues regarding the character America Chavez, arguing that creators are often neither respected nor rewarded for their work on successful film adaptations.
