Spain cuts voting rights for foreigners with citizenship via Grandchildren's Law
Spain's Supreme Court has provisionally suspended the voting rights of many individuals who've obtained Spanish citizenship via the Democratic Memory Law, commonly known as the ‘Grandchildren’s Law’.
The Conselleiro de Presidencia, Xustiza e Deportes, Diego Calvo, has urged the government to provide legal security for the 'grandchildren' law' and not to "play" with the right to vote, after it was known that the Supreme Court has suspended the right to vote in the Electoral Census of Absent Residents (CERA) in a precautionary manner for new citizens who have obtained citizenship through this law.
The High Court has taken the decision to paralyze this right, in the case of those nationalized by the 'grandchildren' law', until it is established that they are children or grandchildren of exiles.The Civil Guard detains seven people for cocaine trafficking.
The political formations of the right in Spain have celebrated that the Supreme Court has decided to paralyze the registration in the electoral register of the new nationalized ones through the law of grandchildren.
