Space Shuttle astronaut adds missing signature to dollar bill signed by fellow crew in Florida
Guy Gardner added the final STS-27 autograph to a Burger Rob’s dollar bill, completing the crew set nearly 38 years after the mission.
On Thursday night, former astronaut Guy Gardner visited Burger Rob's in Titusville to sign a dollar bill, completing the set of autographs from the 1988 STS-27 space mission nearly 38 years after the flight.
Shelby Buffaloe discovered the STS-27 bill about a year ago while counting cash, and the restaurant's publicity prompted WESH to cover the discovery of the missing astronaut signature.
Gardner participates in a Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex program for retired astronauts. After a fan sent him the WESH report, he promised, "I have to stop by Burger Rob's and finish the bill."
The restaurant's tradition of collecting signed currency has attracted further memorabilia. Rob Buffaloe reported that visitors donated a Shuttle-era bill featuring astronaut John Glenn's autograph after seeing the original story.
With both the STS-27 and John Glenn bills now fully signed, the owners of Burger Rob's are preparing a new presentation. Buffaloe stated, "We're going to do a heck of a display.
